When trying to reinstall Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.11 I came across this strange error:

error opening file for writing js3250.dll

After searching on Google for answers it seems some people are having this trouble due to malware. Malware? Me? No. Never. Well… Maybe. So I scan with Ad-aware and AVG for virii/malware and finds nothing. Okay, so I figure just delete the offending file and reinstall. Nope. File in use.

I figure the command line might let me delete it. No, now I’m getting a cyclic redundancy check error, not great but can be fixed. This usually means a corrupt file error. Finally getting somewhere. Seems that the file in question, “js3250.dll” is corrupt. Here’s how to fix:

Go to start > run > type cmd > type chksdk /f into the command window that pops up and then restart your computer. You may have to do this a couple of times until it finds js3250.dll.

Now just reinstall Mozilla Firefox and your back surfing the web with your favourite browser.

Peace
