So today I started to get a strange error every time I opened a folder in Windows Explorer and Explorer would crash. Turns out there’s a problem with my DivX/XVid codec being used to display the image previews for avi files. First of all I tried removing my DivX web player and ffdshow to see if they were the problem. No such luck so I searched on Google for “xvid.ax windows error” and I found solution through a Google Answers Post. The solution:

Always backup your registry before making any changes.

This will disable video previews in Windows Explorer but hey, I can live with that.
